Since 1985, World Youth Day (WYD) has been a gathering of young people from around the world with the Pope. It is a pilgrimage, a celebration of young people, an expression of the universal Church and a beautiful moment of evangelization for the youthful world.
In 2027, the International World Youth Day returns to the Asian continent after 32 years as we gather in Seoul, South Korea!
While participating in WYD 2027, we will get the chance to experience South Korea’s rich cultural heritage which blends ancient traditions and modern innovations. From ancient palaces standing beside tall skyscrapers, to food stands and markets, expect an experience that is both deeply spiritual and culturally enriching.
FUN FACT: While known for Korean Dramas and K-Pop, Korea is also known for a 1200% increase of Catholics in the last 50 years! Additionally, Catholicism in Korea began with lay people rather than missionary priests!
“Take courage! I have overcome the world.” - John 16:33
Pope Francis chose John 16:33 as the theme for World Youth Day 2027. This verse, spoken by Jesus to His disciples at the Last Supper, reminds us of the irrevocable truth that despite the challenges of the world, Christ has already conquered fear, sin and death. It is a call to hope and courage rooted in faith in the resurrection – not a passive optimism, but a bold confidence grounded in the living presence of Christ.
It is both a personal and communal encounter - a moving pilgrimage of faith. This is an opportunity to witness the universality of our faith, not just while in Seoul but even here in our Diocese. Experience the power of the Holy Spirit as it strengthens the faith of young people and unites us under the banner of God’s love and mercy.
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to be among thousands upon thousands of other young people. It is a time to meet new people, learn about culture and faith, and to have “an encounter with Jesus Christ, His Spirit and His Church.”
In accordance with the direction of WYD Canada and the CCCB, pilgrims must be 18 years or older on the date of departure. Each pilgrim must have a valid passport more than 6 months outside of expiry on the date of departure.
Due to the demanding nature of the pilgrimage and the summer heat, a pilgrim is to be in good physical, mental, emotional, psychological and spiritual health. As we progress towards WYD, we will be preparing ourselves so that every pilgrim’s experience may be spiritually nourshing.

FROM WYD LISBON 2023
Loving Lord of all young people, we thank You for inviting us into Your infinite love and mercy.
Our Father, we entrust ourselves to You. May young people everywhere be comforted in the embrace of Your Church, and come to share deeply in the joy of communion and unity.
Lord Jesus Christ, You overcome the world, both now and forever. May all people discover the hope that lies in Your call to take courage, realizing that the cross of love and forgiveness is the true victory over the world.
Oh Holy Spirit, Flame of Love, by Your wondrous hand You have sown the seeds of faith in Korea. Kindle the flame of the Korean martyrs’ faith in our hearts, making us into disciples who live out the gospel of peace, love, and truth.
Lord, we pray that through this pilgrim journey of World Youth Day we may listen to each other, discern Your will,
and become a synodal Church, walking together with all of God’s people. Amen.
○ Our Lady of mercy and peace,
